The Science

How Moxi Laser Treatment Works

Moxi is a non-ablative fractional thulium laser (1927nm wavelength) that creates microscopic treatment zones in the superficial layers of the skin. Unlike more aggressive resurfacing lasers, Moxi targets the epidermal and upper dermal layers to address pigmentation irregularities, melasma, and early photodamage. The controlled micro-injuries stimulate the skin's natural repair process, replacing damaged cells with fresh, healthy tissue. Because Moxi treats only a fraction of the skin per session, surrounding untreated tissue supports rapid healing — making it one of the most tolerable laser treatments available, suitable for all skin types including darker tones.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What is the downtime with Moxi?

+

Moxi is known for minimal downtime. Most patients experience mild redness and a sandpaper-like texture for 2–4 days as micro-lesions heal. Makeup can typically be applied from day two. Many patients have treatment on a Friday and return to work on Monday.

How does Moxi compare to more aggressive lasers?

+

Moxi is a gentle, non-ablative laser — it works without removing the outer layer of skin. This means less downtime and lower risk compared to ablative lasers like CO2 or Erbium. It is ideal for patients who want visible improvement without significant recovery time.

Can Moxi be combined with other treatments?

+

Yes. Moxi pairs exceptionally well with BBL (BroadBand Light) in what is often called the 'Hero' combination — BBL addresses surface pigmentation and redness while Moxi targets texture and deeper tone correction. It can also complement HydraFacial treatments.

Is Moxi suitable for darker skin tones?

+

Yes. The 1927nm thulium wavelength used by Moxi has an excellent safety profile across all skin types, including darker tones. Dr Sarwar will assess your skin and adjust parameters accordingly during your consultation.
